ABS Sensor

Post by Coops »

Hey up guys, got another bl**dy warning light come up on the old D9 110 HDI (W reg), this time it's the ABS light that's come on and refuses to go out  Having looked through the various threads I'm looking at the fact that it's probably one (or more) of the sensors (reason for this is that the light comes on when the wheels are stationary, which would tend to discount the reluctor rings), does anyone know if it's possible to use a multi-meter and do a continuity/resistance check on the sensors? If so, any idea of the resistance I should get, or is it PP2000 only

Cheers

Chuck some power at one terminal, put an oscilloscope probe on the other and smoothly turn the wheel while watching the scope display. The output waveform should be a smooth square wave.

I've been thinking about that one, the trouble is the schematics I have are a) for com2000 (possibly the same ) and b) wrong :(

It's not necessarily the sensors though, if there's a fault it'll put the abs light on and it'll stay on until the car checks the system out at something like 10kmh, if it's still faulty the light will still stay on even if you turn the car off. Not sure if disconnecting the battery would clear it either...

I've had my car in gear on axle stands at speeds well over that and the ABS fault has gone when the engine's stopped...

Has it? Maybe it's a D8 thing - when I did the gearbox flush on my D8 even after I'd finished sodding about, given it a final fill, put it back on the ground, tidied up, had a cup of coffee etc. the lamp still stayed on when I turned the engine back on again and didn't go out until I started driving it.

Schematics (com2000)
Front left - 7&6
Front right - 5&4
Rear left - 9&8
Rear right - 2&1

Autodata (2000 HDi)
Front left - 7&6
Front right - 5&4
Rear left - 9&8
Rear right - 3&1

:(

Sorry guys, been away for a bit and didn't have time to reply. Thanks for the info/help and I'd nailed it down to it being both sensors on the near side, however... Had a bit of difficulty in getting the back one out, so it was off to the local garage as I was running out of time. Jobs all done now but thanks for the help.
