trying to find a part. peugeot got it wrong.
hi every one. i have a problem with my estate. the high pressure, cooling type pipe for the power steering has been rubbed through by the engine fans. it seems to run in front of the radiator 2 or 3 times but mine has jumped out of its clips and rubbed away by fans. it is a D8 2088 td , 1998. can anyone help with a part number as i have to order one and want to make sure it is right first. pug dealer got the number wrong. also, how do you change it? front bumper off, rads out. it looks a bit of a mess.

hi omega, i am in surrey,
would you like to sell this as i am without transport and fed up. i have not been able to see how to change the pipe. any ideas? i cant look for the moment because my car is at a mates where it died. would you know how to change it? or is there a link on here somewhere?

hi omega, i just had to have a fag, cant believe someone knows what i am talking about.!!
if you have the pipe to hand, could you tell me if it is high or low pressure. could i try to repair mine if it is low pressure. what ends does it have.? i really want to get my car back so i have transport.

im just off to a wedding wont be back till sunday,if you desprate try someone like pirtek they come out to you and do the job or look under hydralic[cant spell] pipe suppliers.
mine is still on my spares car so dont know how it comes off.

Is this the one under the radiator like a coil of aluminium pipes?
If this is the aluminium pipe I can recommend a temporary fix ....
Get some high pressure rubber piping and jubilee clips from a factors, the type that is used with brake servos.
Cut the aluminium pipe where it is leaking and fit the rubber piping over the aluminium pipe and fasten some jubilee clips on each side to seal it.
Fill up the system with new power steering fluid.
Please note that this is meant to be a get you home temporary fix....make sure you get the correct part and fit it later.
I have used this get you home fix a few times but it is NOT a substitute for the correct repair.
If this is the type I mentioned then it is a very easy job to replace the piping, no bumper removal required.

Doug, yeah, that is the one I was thinking of.
You can do the temporary repair with some hydraulic hose or the servo piping, these pipes are low pressure.
I have done this several times, in fact I still have one of these pipe units in my garage at home with the repair in place.
To replace the pipe unit is a very easy job, but they are fairly expensive if I remember.
It's a very common fault.
I had to repair my own Peugeot Expert van with a similar problem....the pipe rubs on the bottom radiator hose on my van.

i will be on the repair monday. got no transport to go round the scrappies to find a pipe. not had my pug long, about a month. love it to bits. the day it packed up i had been flying round belgium and france in it. it packed up about 2 miles from home. i have never seen a 406 estate in black. it looks pretty smart.

4020FX? Seems to be the feed pipe to the rack - we're talking about the bit that looks like a kettle element under the radiator, yes?
4020WV - 40 quid from Pug (amazingly cheap for them
). Looks like it's the low pressure side and there's two jubilee clips on it, so you could probably get a length of pipe from your local motor factors and either temporarily fix it as Jasper says or (as it's not that warm out) remove the thing entirely and bridge the two pipes. Obviously this is a temporary repair so you can tour the old breaker's yards. Don't be driving it around Europe like that!

thats the little monkey. it struck me as looking like something that has excaped from a kettle, well , if you are cool with it, so am i.

Err, coolant temperature sensor? There's a choice of 3 - one for the air con, one for the gauge and one for the engine management... (it seems to be the green one)
