Whats that all about then?
First time for me this morning to drive my car after a snow fall, the roads were clear to be honest but i managed to find some hardly touched white stuff just after dropping the kids to school so thought i'd try the brakes out in the snow. So coming up to a junction i slowed down quicker than normal, car started to slide, brake pedal felt like it was fighting me then the car stopped.
Is this the abs doing it's job? i've driven a none abs xsara for 8 years so it's the first time i've felt this.
And while were at it (tyre preasure) 195/65/15 on my 2.0 hdi estate any idea what they should be i checked them today they were all to cock.. front left was 36psi front right was 30psi and the rears were 25psi... i put 33psi in all round just to be safe but not sure this is right?

Hi
I'm not sure about the abs but i can tell you 33psi is correct i've got the same size tyres as your car. Hope that helps. I'm sure there will be someone on here who can give you some advice on the abs.

If you heard and felt a rapid clicking, then yep it's the ABS.
In snow, ABS will actually bring you to a halt a lot later than if you lock the wheels
It's not the magic safety bullet a lot of people think it is (it works by *releasing* the brakes, so go figure), but it does allow for control during emergency braking - it's essentially the same as cadence braking on a non-ABS car

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
Re: oh aye
It was rough and bumpy, like it was saying " fook you i got this under control"
.... Sort of glad it was me who experianced it because if it happened to the wife she'd think something was wrong... then again she's not confident (or should i say stupid enough) to slam the brakes on in snow.

Re: oh aye
So are the tyre pressures different for the saloon and estate? Mine normally end up with around 30psi in them.

Re: oh aye
I might be wrong but i think 30psi is to low especialy if it's a diesel lump, i use to put 32psi in my old xsra 1.9td coupe.
