Drop links
That familiar clunking is back so time for some new links, euro car parts stocks Q-drive and Lemforder, the latter being nearly twice the price. £30 for a pair of Q-drive £55 for a pair of Lemforder (before discount).
Is it worth spending the extra or will I still only get 12 months out of a set of droplinks?, the roads by me are shocking after the winter freeze.

Re: Drop links
Ally, thanks for the link.
According to the list they fit my car but according to the picture they don't so I'm not sure how they can be OE, the bottom joint on both my 406's have been straight.
Could just be the wrong pic I suppose but I think I'll get them over the counter to save the messing about.
Do D9's have different shape links to D8's?

Re: Drop links
You can usually tell they are genuine Peugeot because you have to buy the nuts as extras

Re: Drop links
Very early D8s (1996) had a drop link with one balljoint in line with the rod and the other at right angles (MrV6 on the coupé club has a car with these) but that's not what they're showing there, I think the picture's the wrong one. You could always ask...gumby6371 wrote:Do D9's have different shape links to D8's?
I had genuine ones on my D8, they didn't last any longer than anything else.

Re: Drop links
Looks like a library picture to me mate, easiest way is to look up Servicebox and check the part number. I'm pretty sure it will be the right thing. I've got Motaquip (a PSA company) on mine and they've gone 25k so far.gumby6371 wrote:Ally, thanks for the link.

I would have expected OE droplinks to last at least 3 years/60,000 miles? Otherwise Peugeot would have been replacing them frequently under warranty? We've had a 406 from new and it went 78k on original drop links (then we sold it).

Re: Drop links
My 96 D8 clearly falls into the 'early D8' category, straight bottom joint with a right angle joint at the top.
Had a bit of a google on Lemforder and they seem to get a big thumbs up on other forums, the bimmer owners quote them as being oe manufacturers and worth spending the extra on.
I did manage to wangle the links for the other halfs car at trade last time I was in ECP, £8.20 each instead of £23 so I might give it the old 'is that the best you can do' speech and see what happens.
They've deteriorated really fast since I first noticed the knocking, I'll pop it round to my mates one night this week as he has an angle grinder for easy removal and most important a nice big garage with a heater in it!!!

Re: Drop links
Not sure about what goes into the KB but I just came across this on you tube.

It doesn't contail my preferred method of removing old links with lots of noise and sparks but it looks close enough for anyone attempting the job for the first time.
Can a mod have a look
