The 406 handles great, the steering wheel at least feels like its connected directly to the wheels, unlike my old clio which felt like it went through a jar of treacle first, the thing which makes it great is how quick it responds to the smallest input.

After putting a strut brace on it make a huge difference to the handling, the car used to feel boaty in the corners but now it feels much more secure, i had pirelli p6000s on for 2 years and they were great, but the cheaper tyres that came with the new alloys seem to be slightly inferior i wouldnt have the same confidence in the corners at the moment.
But for a car that is as comfortable as the 406 its amazing that it can still handle so well.

I just thought that I never brought a conclusion to this.

Having fitted the top links, I found the handling transformed. I've no idea why they seem to have had such an effect on the front end, but its really done the trick. :)
She feels tighter and the front seems to have more bite. Far less understeer than before and the squealing seems to have died off too ( although it can still make her sound like a pig if I carry too much speed into a roundabout :cheesy: )

Strange that something so little had such an impact. They were well goosed mind.....

Unfortunately the 406 has many suspension components that wear with time. Even if they pass an MOT on a car that age they will be well past their best. I would look at lower arm bushes, front and rear drop links and roll bar bushes if you want to freshen up the handling. Keep an eye out on ebay for decent quality pattern parts or new old stock OE stuff. Then get yourself into a place that does proper 4 wheel alignment. The 406 should be pulled down onto the ramp to the Peugeot specified ride height before geometery adjustments are made. Check out http://www.alignmycar.co.uk. If you do all that, you should find that your old Puggy has no problems out handling many newer cars

Glad you manage to sorted it out.
406 is in fact a great car in terms of handling.

Every car will squeel in corners if you push them hard,i dont do that very often but when it squeals and people turn i laugh :cheesy:
