is the a drain plug on the pum or do you have to syringe the fluid out (d9 110 hdi) manky fluid that smells burnt

I don't know about D9's, but on the D8 I unbolted the PAS pipe union next to the subframe under the car which drained off pretty much all the fluid. Don't remove reservoir cap until you put the pipe over a container! If there's any left in the reservoir suck it out with a turkey baster.
