2.1 1998 front spring

Post by Deeg »

First of hello, my first post here and I'm in need of some help.

I bought a 2.1D 406 R plate 98 as a run around for me and today I had a problem with it. it looks like the front drivers spring has broken and has dropped down and burst the Cv boot, wells that what it looks like at the moment as I havent been able to get the wheel off to look properly as the car doesnt have a jack. one of the many things on my to do list for the car.

I've been able to source a spring and shocker assembly for £30ish but it's from a 1.9d, would this fit or would it need to be a heavier spring?

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Petrol engines 2.0 16V, 2.0 8V turbo and 3L V6 and all diesel engines use the same shock part number according to service box. I think the 1.9 diesel uses a different spring though as most lowering springs have different models for 1.9 and 2.1 diesels. I actually have some 2.0 16V shocks fitted to the front of my 2.1TD.

I wasn't having a go fella, I was just saying Service Box says the struts are the same but from what I am aware with regards lowering springs, the spring rates differ. Let's face it, you know more than me when it comes to swapping bits over, I'm just a keyboard warrior!

that would be great. cheers

Looks like the spring has broken and it's bent the cup on the shocker, then burst the CV boot.

Got the wheel off first thing just need to source some parts now, any recommendations for suppliers?

If you're in Aberdeen, try Overton's Dismantlers out by the Kirkhill Industrial Estate in Dyce - they've always got 406s in their yard, but you need to be quite specific about what you're looking for - they don't let the public into their yard, they go and get the parts for you.
2002 (D9) Peugeot 406 Coupe SE, 2.2 litre Petrol. Scarlet Red/Rouge Ecarlate/Rosso Scarlatto. Black Leather interior. SOLD :(
2008 (E60 LCI) BMW 525i M-Sport, 3.0 litre Petrol. Carbonschwarz Metallic. Black Dakota Leather and Myrtlewood interior.

Yeah thats where I can get the 1.9 shocker from but I'm trying to find out if the 1.9 d will fit the 2.1d.

Awaiting Peugeot in Dundee calling me back.

Just been told I can get a new shocker to fit for £50 and then a new pair of springs for £32.

Just waiting to find out if this bit will fit or not.

Well the 1.9 shocker fits fine, everything to do witht he suspension is now back in full working order and changed the spring at the other side aswell just incase.

Now I just need to fit a new CV boot and she will be back on the road.
