Suspension now snapped i am going insane

Ok this car is driving me nuts havent used it for 4 days as lift share and went out to it tonight and noticed drivers side spring snapped big time and torn thru the gater would this damage the drive shaft i am gong to have to ring the AA and get the spring replaced at a garage. tomorrow or friday.

Oh forgot to say i drove it about 50 metres to move it would that have caused damage

Possibly, I think they usually puncture the tyre though.

Yeh tyre looks pretty screwed its a complete ball ache just hope nothing is wrong with drive shaft as it tore thru the gaitor though it drove ok for the short distance it went

if its just the gaitor then its just a re greese and a new gaitor, i wouldnt think its could have got at anyting important

A guy said to me today that the spring needs to be cut off is that true i cant see how if its being replaced.

both my front springs snapped overnight last year in the winter its a common thing with 406s

1 did have to be cut off yes ,

moving it will cause more damage i never moved mine and luckely no damage was caused

well only a small dent on the 1 alloy , had the alloy checked out and its fine

Had one go, and went through gator and ripped out abs sensor wiring as well.
Missed the tyre luckily

I have a werid question about it my new spring is just painted black yet the old piec that snapped off the bottom has thick rubber around it is this usual or am i missing something.

Its just a complete ball ache i get comments at work like buy a new car but what the point its reliable very economical its just niggly problems that get on your t*ts and always at the wrong time

if i remember from when mine snapped ,

sum1 on here said change springs every 25k

bugger that would rather wait till they go again just unsure of this thick rubber on it which isnt on the new one

dont think my new ones had the rubber thing, wouldnt worry about it dont think they need anything on them

Well have got it all done though i have noticed that when you push down on the front it occassionally creaks is this usual what could it be?

My front passenger side spring snapped while sitting on the drive last week, went off like a shotgun and scared the life out of me as I was stood by the back door having a smoke at the time.

Priced up a new set, checked the bank balance, went to scrapyard and got a complete leg for £15. Luckily the only damage was the spring had pulled the brake pad sensor cables out. Undid a few bolts swapped the whole leg in 20 minutes.

Hardest part was getting the feeling back into my fingers as it was minus 8 at the time.

Yes it will probably go again but hopefully I'll have a newer, shinier 406 on the drive when that happens :cheesy:
