Steering racks

Post by Woody »

Hi Chaps. Do all 406's have the same steering rack? I'm assuming power steering is standard throughout the model range, but did they change the rack for any reason or are they all the same from 95 through to 2003?

Thanks John

...and some, (v6's I think), have variable assistance - don't know if the rack's different or just the pump?

Just the rack - the pump's the same. All V6s have it, dunno about any other models (maybe HDI136 and 2.1TD?)

There's also the models with ESP which I know involves a steering angle sensor on the steering column, but I don't know if there's another rack for those or not

just had mine changed and apparently there are 11 variants of pas rack for the 406. £800 from stealer, £220 roughly from part place, cheaper on ebay and I paid £50 from scrapy through 1st for parts. genuine rack, just used so easy to match exact part numbers and if it only lasts 2 years, i am still quids in as life expectancy of car is possibly no more than 5 years anyway...
