knocking from rear wheel over slight bumps

While talking to a fellow 406 driver at work this evening (hello Bill) we came to the conclusion that something on the rear of the car is knackered as over very slight bumps in the road im getting like a knocking noise from the driver side rear wheel.

In the morning (after some sleep, as just got in from a 12hour night shift) im going to jack the car up and have a look underneath the car to have a look whats wrong

Ive had a quick look on the 'Service Box AP' site and i cant seem to find the part me and Bill where talking about, can anyone shed some light on this for me please

Thanks

Anti-roll bar drop-links, probably. It seems to be a common failing on the 406, considering Peugeot seem to have made them out of a material that has the consistency of chocolate :(

Mine went on the saloon about a month after I got the Powerflow exhaust fitted, so naturally I had visions of one of the exhaust mounts having fallen off and the knocking being the pipe smacking into the underside of the car - thankfully it wasn't that, but still, it made me paranoid!

I got a garage to swap mine over, so I don't know the part numbers, or even what it looks like

My money's on the anti-roll bar mountings! (like a saddle clip with 2 bolts into the rear bulkhead thing) the drivers-side one requires the fuel tank filler to be moved/lowered to get the spanners in

Could be the ARB drop links, or more likely the ARB bushes. I'd change both as a matter of course!
While you're back there check for any play in the top links as well, these are another weak point.

A word of warning, stay away from cheap ebay parts, they are crap (as I found out :frown: )

That's the very early version (shared with the 106 I seem to recall)

well its been to the garage today and they cant find anything wrong with the back end... however the front passenger anti-roll bar is buggered so its going back in tomrrow for both fronts to be done
