Hi mate: please add some detail of what peugeot 406 you have what year etc,
there is 2 versions of drums, the older as just drum and shoes, the later as Discs but as shoes too,
There is a How too Guide on the Forum on changing rear brakes, etc ..

Assuming you have removed the screws holding the drum on.....
Give the drum a bash on the front of the drum to loosen it from the hub then get 2 flat bladed screwdrivers....one each side of the drum....and lever the drum away from the shoes...carefully so you don't damage the shoes.....there will probably be a lip on the inside of the drum making it difficult to lever the drum over the shoes.
If you still have trouble, get a small torch and look through a wheel bolt hole for the adjuster and try to slacken it off.

if its been adjusted before you WILL need to slacken off the adjuster, also it ay be worth undoing the handbrake cable, after you do that it will need a bit of a wack to make sure they are nice and loose but then it should come off in your hands, dont forget to sand like mad on the lip on the inside of the drum or if you need to take it off again you will be in the same boat.

It sounds like you were lucky that happened when the car was stationary.
Let us know if you need any moral support
