I have just been informed that the front wheel bearings on my 97 P reg 2.0gtx need to be changed. What I want to know is, is this likely to be an expensive job? What would be an average (ballpark) cost for this job?

prices will vary mate,
best to shop around and get some prices,

as a guess you shouid be looking at 50 -60 labour + what ever they charge for the bearings,
you couid always do it your self there not that hard to do- hardest bit is pressing the bearing out of the hub,
garages use a press for that but and old socket and a lump hammer gets them out ,
