Hi all. My car, a peugeot 1999/2000 406 saloon Diesel, has on of the rear bearings starting to grumble. I have seen them on ebay for a reasonable price. I was wondering if any one could tell me about the amount of teeth on the gear for the anti lock system. Do you know is it easy to count the teeth on the gear for the anti lock sensor. I ask because the person selling the parts say the bearings are all peugeot parts and to make sure you know how many teeth are on it.
I wont be changing the bearing myself but will be putting it into a garage but the price they quoted for the bearings were nearly twice the price of those on ebay. Thanks everyone for your advice.

On cars fitted with ABS there are two different counts on the castleations
Early cars have IIRC 29 teeth, and latter cars have IIRC 48 teeth

My car is a 99, built in January of that year, and has 29teeth
I had problems with the ABS on mine after the motor factors sold me one for a 99 car
Problem was I found out after was their system listed cars 96-98 and 99 to 2004
However D8's were done up till february 99 although some sat in dealerships unsold until 2000 as we have seen D8's up till X reg
The new registration in March 1999 saw Pug release the revised ( or "restyled" ) D9

You have two options
Take the wheel off, undo the caliper mounts and support it on something, and then remove the rear disc, and physically count the castleations ( teeth )

Alternatively if you are signed up to Service Box and input your vin you could look up on their

Thanks for your replies. Mine is a D9 with the honeycombe front grill and the space between the top and bottom rear lights. I will look at the log book to see what year it is but the reg plate puts on a "Y" reg and I think, but not sure, it was regestered in May of 99.

1999 shouidnt be a Y plate ishouidnt think mate,

1999 is v-w reg,

y plate is 2000 -2001

parts places will go off your reg number or vin so there shouidnt be any error when they cross-refernce parts,

I have just looked at log book and its a 2000. Sorry for confusion. I have checked the price over our local parts shop and he can get me a new hub with the bearings in it for £37 and thats guarenteed for a year. I have just changed the drop link today on the drivers side and its just like what other posts say on here about it being easy to do, took me 30 minutes.
A new set of front discs are needed so they are £35 a pair and £25 for the pads. Do you think these are reasonable bearing in mind they are not genuin parts.
Thanks everyone.
