Need some good tyres any ideas?
looking for some that will Be good in the wet,
the ones ive got on Now are shite, wont Grip going up hill in the wet there useless,
Just had my Gearbox Rebuilt, Dont know what hes done or used but theres too much Torque more noticable going up hill,
Seriously thinking of having it De-mapped now

thinking of Goodyear or pirrelli.
does anyone know of any other good tyres for under £70 a corner ?

I put some Kumho's on mine last time and they were good in the wet, nice to drive and reasonably long lasting at a decent price.

Do you know if your gearbox is an ML5 or a BE3 / 4? From the recent posts on ratios, it's clear Pug are using the ML5 / 6 for all the high torque engines, so should cope with anything a remapped 110 can throw at it.

I'm planning to change tyres too, and I was looking especially for wet performance as you.

Avon ZV5
NOKIAN V
Pirelli cinturato P7
Continental premium contact 2
Bridgestone turanza er300
Goodyear optigrip

Between those my first pick would be the michelin's since they are very good in the wet and last long, but they are expensive.
The vredenstein look very good and are good in the wet, last pretty long, but it seems the recent ones aren't as good as the the first sportrac3.
The avon's were highly praised by a couple of coupé owners on the forums.
Turanzas are good under every aspect, while Falken's were highgly reccomended by guys on the BMW forums

All these tyres are good and you'll se little differences between each other, but better do some research on them.
The cheaper are the avon's, followed by Turanzas and sportracs, while continental's and michelin's are the most expensive.

ithink it was a Ml5 box,
the box whats in now is one thats been rebuilt out of one thats come out of a van,
dont know what van its out of tho,

I have Khumos on and they've barely lasted two years (30k) whereas the Michelin Energy I had on before did four years (though, admittedly, they should probably only have done three). So I was thinking of going back to Michelins next

That's just because the Energy rubber is very hard. That's why they are the worse (decent brand) tyres on the wet. Do not buy, just don't.

I've had Falken FK-452 on mine for the last three and a half yrs , back
one's are still legal front one's i changed about 7 months ago they were
getting quite low still grippy but no good in the snow we had . Very good
grip in dry and not much less in wet , they are made in japan .

Bridgestone RE050A are great too.

igot 2 dunlops off a friend they not new (part worned) got the pair for £20 so iwill get them fitted,
wont be keeping the 406 for much longer so i thought id go with the cheaper option off a friend, rather than spending £120 or so,
ithink the Dunlops are not bad, there only 5mth old so theyl do the next owner fine ishouid think,

I see there's a huge difference between your behaviour and our's (italians) wen it comes to tyres.
Here, most of the people interested in cars try to change tyres 4 at a time, swapping them over every 7000-10000km to keep them equal. Also when it comes to tyres most people here doesn't mind spending 100£ more for some peace of mind knowing they got the best.
I agree with those who do so, partly because in my exerience getting a poor tyre or mixig different tyres can (will) lead to disaster.

My mum for example bought Chinese brand snow tyres. Result: they work s**t and in a tight turn taken at normal speed the rear completely slipped off for no reason (in a front wheel drive small car!!!) on a small pot of water, leading to a risk of frontal impact. Luckily the front wheels regained grip in time to prevent the frontal impact, but the car just bounced off to the guard rail. Since the car was almost new 2800£ damage for a bumper and a wing.

That's why I always sugget to buy good tyres 4 at a time. I'm not criticizing, I've only noticed this big difference from Italian and UK drivers.

The one and only time I've ever bought tyres (so far), was on the old 406 saloon - I bought a complete set of 4 brand new Bridgestone B250 tyres, 195/65/R15, and had them professionally fitted.

I've not yet bought tyres for my 406, but I'll need winter tyres soon and I'll probably look for something very good too. I use the car in the snow a lot.
The problem is my 406 can legally use 205/60/R15 or 205/55/R16 wheels only, and at the moment I have 15" rims.
I'll have to get a set of 16" from Ade since good 15" snow tyres are quite rare.

I don't think anyone would believe me if I said how many miles I was getting out of tyres last year on my 405

(yes in a single year I refer to "tyres" as SETS of tyres )

Granted- I get a set fitted and balanced for £100 in 175/70 R14's!

Get good tyres guys, it's the best money spent on a car imho.

Haha- there would have been no point in buying "good" tyres I was doing circa 1000 urban stop-start miles a week- 3 sets of fronts and a back in 12 months...
