Found the 406 has done this to some degree since I bought it- any ideas as to what could cause it?
When braking hard- the steering wheel shakes/shudders

maybe Warped disc.
worn out bush, 0r
balljoint,
perhaps,
Might be worth checking the above for play, get a bar inbetween the wishbone see if theres any movement in the bushes,
or ball joint,
normaly if they fail tho you notice some noise,

I think they are not inter related. Un even wear means one side of the tire is worn ? if so the usual suspect is ball joint. If it's wave like wear around the tire, it's the shockabsober to suspect. Shuddering in the brake can be anything which wobbles the wheel under a load, starting from rack ends/tie rod ends, bushes and the worst could be wheel bearings.
