rear pads on a 406, do the pins that hold in the pads slide to the center of the car like most brake calipers?

Hi
No I would say that they slide in from the centre of the car outwards. When they get corroded in, you need to give them quite a wallop with a nail punch and hammer.
I changed the pins and retaining springs on mine recently.

They will only fit one way because one end of the pin is fatter than the other

R clips at thick end of pin so going on that they slide towards the center of vehicle away from wheel.
