well i dont think peugeot like me, :) adjusted hand brake went from 14% down to 11% and yes i did tighten it up then slacken it off ,i can understand it going up a little then fail but down? have to pull off discs and rough up new shoes and drum readjust and then cable. think its down to new shoes and drums,

Is this by hand or driving along and yanking the handbrake on? If it's by hand I don't think it's going to cut the mustard I'm afraid.

Hi

When you have removed the drums/discs, take off the expander mechanism ( the bit the cable is attached to inside the drums ) on both sides. Clean both expanders with fine emery and lube with copperslip. Reassemble and take up the slack in the drums with adjusters till they can't turn and slacken off slightly. Then try handbrake

Lets face it if the cable is free and tight, then the shoes are not moving onto the drums. What does this, the expander mechanism.

Hope this helps

You need to identify the problem first....take off the drum/disc at the side where the problem lies then get someone to pull the handbrake on and off whilst you look at the mechanism to see if it is moving the shoes to their fullest potential.

If the shoes aren't moving correctly then first check the expander as dummysock suggests, if that is working then you need to look at the cable operation...obviously if the expander is the problem follow the advice given, if not, check the cable is moving freely, if not, replace it.

ok,when i replaced shoes the expander was very stiff and did not come apart after a bit of a grease up the expander come apart and was nice and loose so on they both went, on inspection last night (my fault  ) i noticed a load of oil on shoes and drum (the coating of oil when you buy new discs) this is what i should have cleaned out when i fitted new disc, slipped my mind i remember doing the outer disc so foot brake would have been good, but didn't clean off in drum area, so rubbed down shoes there good now and then in drums, o/s wont move but n/s slips a tad when you go at the wheel nuts with a big bar, so im going to have the disc off again(fot the 3rd time) and see if shoes still has any oil marking on them,
