knocking noises

Post by jonesblakey »

i am getting various knocking noises from rear of car and especially when going over speed bumps/potholes and also some from the front.....i have it in a garage next wednesday to check the problem including bearings and engine mounts as the wife wants to go away a few times this year. i am fearing the worse i.e bushes and cv joints but im praying its not as bad as im thinking it is...so fingers crossed but im hoping someone on here might be able to give me a boost by saying that it might not be as bad as that and its something simple

The usual suspects are the roll bar links or the stabiliser links on the back they usually make knocking noises when they are worn out. Replacing the roll bar links is not too bad i bought a set of them recently for about £22 from motor factors took 1-2 hrs to do myself 3/8 ratchet with 17mm socket usually works for me. The stabiliser links are a bit more tricky but if you take your time you could do this yourself and save some money. If you look in the knowledgebase there are how to to's with pic's as well. Let us know how you get on....

well garage gave car clean bill of health! guess the knocking noise is normal although he did say there is very slight movement in the rear bushes but its nothing to worry bout or i might just be hearing things  . so gunna treat the old girl to a service just got 4 bosch super 4 sparkies on ebay for 13 quid inc. delivery....but just one question....wheres the fuel filter located on a d8 406 family estate 2.0l as i think it needs changing because i been driving it a bit close to the edge as far as fuel goes.
