Hello again everyone, sadly my computer departed me a month or so ago so I haven't been online chatting with you fine people in quite a while but I'm back

Anyway... My subject today is the fact that I'm really coming around to the idea of replacing my rear drums for rear discs, I know there is an unimaginable amount of work involved and some of you may think its pointless but i wanna give it a go.

So if anyone has ever done it or even just considered doing it before it'll be great to hear peoples ideas about it and maybe if someone could let me in on were to start that'll fantastic...

As a guess id say pipes, cables may have to be changed,
Ithink id prefare Drum brakes on a 406 tbh, through past experience with the 406 rear brake disk /drum set up ive nowt much to say about them other
than there Garbage, Drum is better

I'm with Lozz, unless you plan to do track days with it don't bother.

I own one with discs at the back and one with drums. The big and only difference being the drums at the rear give you a handbrake that works well.

Thank you very much for your input guys, I'm still very, very intrested in converting them purely for the fact that discs look better and the "out in the open" nature of discs would benefit me quite a bit due to the extreme heat generated from racing around everywhere...
My drums seem to completely fade after half an hour or so ¦]
I am looking forward to more peoples opinion on the subject though.

if your getting brake fade, remember that about 80 percent of the braking effort comes from the front wheels. This is why if you try and stop a car with the hand brake, it will only gradualy slow down, not slam your face into the windscreen. Perhaps upgrading the front discs might be a better idea?
On a related note, the new trucks that i've been looking at, cause I was bored, are going back to drum brakes from discs as they cope with the massive heat bulid ups better and last longer. The wheel of history turning full circle perhaps?

Also, for the majority of us that don't drive like Jenson Button ( ) the rears are underworked and there's more chance the disks will suffer from corrosion.

What size are your fronts?

If you know someone with a 406 with rear Disc brakes, iwouid ask them for a test drive of theres so you compare Drum to disc.
Honestly mate, the Rear brake disk set up on the 406 isnt excellent,

Ive driven a few and Ithink the Brakes are Garbage. Id deffo stay with the Drums if it were me Much less hastle

If you decide to swap over, your best option wouid be a look round breakers yards look for one with half decent parts
and grab what you need for the conversion,
