I have been considering updating my shock absorbers on my 2000 model 2.0 petrol sedan 406, not that they're worn out, but the car now has 90,000 miles on it (or 142000klms). Is there a suggested time interval after which to replace the shocks? what have others experienced? Car seems to be handling well, but I presume it has lost some of its shock absorption after 13yrs and 90k miles.

Also, what was the OEM supplier to Peugeot for the 406 struts? and if replacing for aftermarket, what would / have you done? I know Peugeot makes shocks, but when I look for 406 shocks on the net, I find ; BOGE, SACHS, KONI, KYB, KRAFT and a bunch of others, but never 'Peugeot' brand. Is there a better choice here, or some tips when considering replacing / updating shocks?

I believe Peugeot generally makes their own shocks, they have their own in-house suspension R&D. The only reason I would change from OEM Peugeot springs and shocks would be to lower the car. Peugeot's stock suspensions are really really good and you're much more likely to mess up the ride and handling rather than improve it, if you put on aftermarket parts.

If you really want aftermarket shocks, Koni and Bilstein are by far the best. For aftermarket springs (if you need them), I'd go with Eibach. Koni/Bilstein shocks with Eibach springs will give you high-end suspension for cheap Chinese coilover money.
