Just changed the front pads on my daughter's 307 without problems, but bottled out of changing the rears, as I wasn't sure how to retract the pistons.....
I think her car has Bosch calipers, the handbrake also works via the pads.

I'm guessing the outer ring on the piston rotates as it moves forward and is the self adjusting machanism for the handbrake? Is it a case of winding it back in?

Any advice appreciated, as always.

Yes, wind the pistons back in.

Peel back the ribber outer seal and spray wd40 in and around the outer seal edge, it will make rotating the piston much easier.

I use a pair of molegrips screwed out to gently clamp on the outer edge of the piston and wind them in that way, but if the piston has slots you can use a pair of pointed nose pliers.....it's sometimes easier to use a G clamp on the piston winding it in as you turn it with the molegrips....the piston "steps down" as you get half a turn if you use a G clamp.

Check that the pistons both screw in clockwise as some of them are opposite on one side.

If it had been my own, I would probably have given it a go, but as they need it for their holiday in a week or two and there's still a fair bit of 'meat' on the pads, I wimped out.
I'll try again when they get back.
