Just bought a 306 xs with a 406 2L SRI engine in it, sitting on GTI6 front end etc, have a knock when taking off from drivers side, think it could be drivershaft and wondered whether it is a straight fit of sri Driveshafts and thought this would be gd place to start?
Also any suggestions on places for parts etc would be appreciated!

AFAIK, the SRi uses an ML gearbox, so if I had to guess, I'd buy the GTi6 driveshaft..
But I'm not sure on that
EDIT: I'd also be starting by looking at suspension bushes and engine mounts before looking at driveshaft issues.

Do you have a knock when you are driving and you lift off the throttle and floor it again?

SRI engine, so is that the 2.0 turbo or a 2.2? I don't think the SRI ever came with a 2.0 non-turbo.

I actually had this same problem with the knocking with my old 406. No one knew what it was without replacing half the car. Drop links are out of the question as I did replace those. I found my knocking noise to be temperamental. Same days you wouldn't hear a thing and some days it would be very loud. Before the knocking noise, I did put a 2nd hand half shaft in from another 406 as my one had a bad CV joint. But still unsure as to what the sound was. Someone did think it could have been the subframe or bushes.
Good luck in finding that bastard of a noise!

Nice :-)
Do you know much power it's putting down? I bet that little 306 can hustle.

Not had her on the rolling road yet, putting out 1 bar at the moment, but can put out 2. She is a quick little motor

your engine mount on the driverside will have cracked the area under it on the inner wing causes a horrible noise sounds like its behind the dash board clonk sort off sqeak common as hell on the 306s will need welding easy to spot just take the bracket off the the mushroom will just unscreew with a tap from a blunt chisel or big grips you will see a crack where the mount screews down.
