Got a weird one here , every time i hit a bump I get an irritating knock from the rear of the car , all the suspension has been checked as well as the exhaust and there is no movement at all , it's a 51 plate 406 2.0 coupe . I'm a bit baffled by this ....anyone have any ideas ?

Are you absolutely super completely positively stake-your-life-on-it sure that it's not the droplinks?

If you are 100% it's not the suspension or exhaust: Something in the back or boot? Spare wheel banging in the well? Fuel tank mountings OK? Seats locked OK? Rear doors closed properly? Just some food for thought.

I had the same and it was the N/S top link,it was a job to feel it but if I held the wheel at the 10 to 4 position and pulled and pushed top to bottom you could just detect a very slight movement, when the link was removed you could see it was U/S,it was only a slight movement but a big knock at the rear.

Haha
It does sound very much like droplinks, the clonking over bumps is particularly characteristic. Just changed them on my Coupe, and did the estate last year, both for exactly this symptom, and it shut them both up.
D9s do seem to like eating them for breakfast

I'm on my 3rd pair of front drop links atm........although this time, I dug deeper and got Lemforder ones, so hopefully they'll be more resilient than the marzipan constructed things previously bought from E Bay.....

Hallsie,
Just a word if you do want to change the rear top links, I had a bit of trouble getting the eccentric bolts out and then the main stealer didn;t have any stock from Peugeot. May be worth checking these bolts are available first.

The bolts were back in stock at the end of November as in
this thread.

99% sure that it will be you rear top links, you only need a tiny amount of movement for them to nock & it sounds terrible in the car

.
As others have said get a pair of new eccentric bolts washers & nut's from the steelers first & pay for lemforder links the best you can get

.
If doing the job yourself soak the bolts & nuts overnight in penatrating oil (I like plusgas best) & it's worth paying for rear wheel alinement after.
Mine felt better than it ever had after having that done.
ps I find eurocarparts best for lemforder parts.

Don't forget to get the rear end tracked up afterwards. No matter how careful you are when removing the old one by putting marks etc on the chassis rail, you cannot guarantee it will go back in the same place.
Apart from that, they can actually be different lengths, which will truly screw up your measurements!
In this pic the difference is 2mm in length!

Sorry Mark but I thought I mentioned the rear wheel alinement / rear tracking in my post above

.
Anyway I have to agree strongly with you my car felt better than it ever had after having the rear tracking done

Those links as above have been changed within the last few weeks ... Looks as though the old bolts have been stuck back in though ... So I will change the drop links and see what happens
