Power Steering Pump, which one?

Post by millard »

Hi again everybody.
I'm just returning to the forum after being a couple of years Pugless.

My car this time round is the same as the last one I had, - 2002 Executive HDi 110 Estate.
In very good condition all round with 163K on the clock.
Cambelt done 10K miles back.

The steering pump is getting very tired over the last few days, with a kinda NOTCHY feel to it (best way I can think to describe it) and very hard work at low engine speeds.

I'm looking on eBay and there's lots of cheap used pumps, but I'm confused as to interchangeability between different years/models/fuel types/engine sizes/and even body types.

I'll list a few examples below and would be very grateful indeed for any help in choosing which would be suitable for me.
Thanks in advance.

Sorry my mistake here. I just thought I'd re-check the fluid level and it's way down again. I topped it up just now and drove back from Halford's and there's a drip from the front offside.
So it looks like I'll have to have a close look at the pipe work to figure out where it's coming from as from up on top it's not obvious.

Hi & welcome back. 8)

Hope you get it sorted easily. Leaky power steering is a delight of 406 ownership I have yet to experience, but I think there are one or two of our stalwarts able to tick that particular box.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)
