Steering pump replacement

Post by stuartkeith »

OK, Was going to get the steering pump replaced before the clutch went, now this is done I wanted to confirm that this is the likley cause?

Basicly, the steering suddenly goes heavy. you will turn to the right and it will be nice an light for a quarter turn, then it will be heavy then light again. turning left, its heavier then it is normally. So basicly when you are sat a junction it can make for some interesting manuaovers as you have to compensate, and then sometimes over compensate.

Dose this sound like the power steering pump?

Sounds like a loss of hydraulic pressure, could be the pump, or an air leak, or the belt slipping.

Could also be the strut top bearings...... it gives the car a 'lumpy' steering.
