Recommended Shocks

Hi All!

So, time to tackle another item on my long 'To-Do' list for my HDI Estate. The Suspension!

I'm hoping there's not much to do there, since some items have already been replaced when I initially purchased the car, a couple years back. But, the shocks themselves will most likely need to be replaced.

After a brief chat with my mechanic, I'm now looking into buying some new shock absorbers. I'm hoping to keep the ride on the 'comfort' side, but the few times I was able to really chuck the car into some country roads, I really would like it to roll a bit less in the curves.

Any recommendations on what kind of shocks to aim for?

Bilstein B4's all round on mine & very happy 8)

To be honest there's not much choice other than Bilstein's , KYB's or cheep sxxt

To be honest you won't get 'stiffer' sports dampers for these
Just new one's will be a improvement & stiffer lower springs help :cheesy:
I have p.i springs on mine -30mm & 25% stiffer

Much better with no noticeable loss in ride comfort & that's with 16" rims :)

Thanks for the input!

My mechanic mentioned several names such as Billstein, KYB and Monroe, but added 'gas' struts might be a better choice, especially for a car this size.

Been poking around online and there's a lot to choose from: Gas struts, oil struts, mono-tube, twin-tube, adjustable...

Which would be the best choice to put in the old 406?

The Bilsteins are gas

Don't think that Monroe are available for the 406

Koni sport yellow stuff are but they cost over £500.00 for my coupe :supafrisk:

ps: anything new will feel great compared to 100k + shocks, don't forget worn bushings, drop links & Top mounts
& sagging springs
