Rear anti-roll bar bush sizes

Post by Waldo155 »

It's time to do the ARB bushes on the rear and looking around there seems to be 21mm, 21.5mm and 22mm inner diameter bushes available. Did the diameter of the bar vary in manufacture over the years or do the different sizes simply take into account possible wear on the bar?

Thanks in advance, Paul.

Would anyone be able to advise on rear and front anti roll bar bush sizes for a 2003 2.0 HDI estate with chassis #VF38EHRZR81627433 please. I would like to order the bushes before any dismantling is done, I'm guessing 22mm rear and 24mm front but a definitive answer would be great.

Thanks in advance.

If you pass me the DAM number I can look up the part in my DocBackup DVD (copy of ServiceBox). The DAM number is found on a sticker on the door sill, see also: http://406coupeclub.org/Apps_BuildCodeTranslator.php

Hi Frog, thanks for helping me out again 👍 I did try the build code translator but nothing seemed to show
up. Here is a pic of my pillar sticker, maybe it will help. Thanks again 👍

Not sure what you mean with "rear anti roll bar", I think there are only droplinks on the rear (number "6" in the first picture).

For the front ARB, the size seems to be 24mm.

Here are the ServiceBox pictures that seem to be applicable to your model:

Thanks Frog, that confirms 24mm for the front bushes which is good news. Number six on the first diagram I would call a tie rod, this would be to adjust toe in/out on the rear wheels via the eccentric adjuster. It's strange that the first diagram doesn't show the rear anti-roll bar, bushes and drop links!

That's a great help Frog, thank you 👍 It's 24mm front and 22mm rear so I'll get them ordered up. Is there any recommendations on the best make or are they all much the same quality?

A quick search shows they cost a nickle and a dime:

Rear: https://spareto.com/oe/517243
Front: https://bogijn.nl/onderdelen/artikel/10 ... n-draagarm

I have no clue to the quality. Having experience with quite a few aftermarket parts from various brands, I've never discovered a relationship between quality and brand. Sometimes you'll be lucky, other times the part fails too soon. So I'm afraid no advice from me here...

As a following note, my rear roll bar bush disintegrated yesterday, luckily both support clamps are in very good condition so I only need the bushes.
I measured the bar with a pair of vernier calipers and it is 22.15mm so I'm assuming I need 22mm bushes, is this correct?

Yes, I guess it should be a tight fit. Better that, than a loose (rattling) fit.

Definitely must be a tight fit, if loose it will rattle and make you think your drop links are worn.... and you will chase your bum around wondering why you still have a rattle after you replace your drop links... ask me how i know...
