Potential Stupid Question!!

Post by sna400 »

Hi Guys

I want to change the layout of the heater controls / Radio / MFD on my D8 and was wondering - can the electronic controls from a D9 be used on a D8 or is there a whole bunch of motors and control cables for the vents / heater?? At the moment I have the manual version with the push button A/C & Resurculation.

I wouldn't mind getting a look at the back end of a D9 electronic control unit - might give me an idea of just how much work it would be.

Any help or comments would be apreciated

Cheers

Simon

It's an idea, however the control panel itself is multiplex.

Not really possible. It is possible to retrofit a climate control from a D8, but it's a pain in the a** job to do. You need to have a donor car to get the electric loom out of and all the sensors in the system along with the motors that control the air vents and the module that controls them and a bunch of other things. Doesn't really worth the efford. Change the whole car, it will be cheaper and easier...

so you want to put the dash bits out of a d9 into your d8.
The climate control in the car runs off the BSI, and if you put one in youd need the rest of the electrical stuff, including the hdi engine ecu which would require a hdi which would require a d9.
Perhaps buying a d9 is easier.

i really dont think its possible to put a d9 dash in a d8. Perhaps physically its possible to bolt all the bits in there, but to actually make it all work would be very difficult and not worth it. Think of the amount of the footwell connectors, The BSI and the multiplex wiring it would all be very tricky.
But its probably easier to spec up the dash of your d8 add the climate control, and trip computer, the Climate control would be a pain to add just not as bad as adding a d9 dash.

Thanks for all the replies - they kind of confirmed my fears  I have now decided to look at putting a couple of linear actuators onto the heater control cables and control them from two three way switches below the computer touchscreen I will be fitting - simple enough to do (i hope!!)

Eventually I will interface the actuators with the touchscreen - that way I will have a graphic representation of the temp and direction of airflow - but that is WAY down the list of things to do

Just for the time being though I need to sort out a sticking throttle - it's not major but a little annoying - as most problems with french cars are, but I wouldn't give up my 406 for anything!!

Simon, Your dash plans are way above my ability but I may be able to help with your sticky throttle, my D8 had what I thought was a sticking throttle, turned out to be an old and tired return arm, popped one off a scrap car and swapped them over, nice easy 1 minute fix. Hope that helps.
