Retro-fitting seven seats...?

Post by MDB929 »

...Well, not all seven seats, but the additional two to turn my old Exec into a seven seater. There are some on Fleabay - anyone know if I can fit these in the boot of my '97 car? They are the proper ones out of a 'Family' model, so I suppose the obvious question (apart from will this work?) is how to also fit the additional seatbelts...

Any help gratefully received

Pass, best to look at one and see how much more car you need.

Is this the one? If it is then it's got the seat belts with it, you could always email the seller. Seems a bit bluddy pricey though.

Cheers - no, it's not that one, which is indeed a bit on the pricey side. No the ones I'm looking at don't come with belts.

Hello MDB,
Waaaay late posting a reply to this, but if you need help, I can give you the full details on how to do the swap. I just did mine this summer. All the bolt holes are there already and everything fits in without too much problem - all existing trim parts can be modified to fit (side panels, rear window/side panel grilles, etc etc) All quite straight forward. Only one thing to watch out for - facelift cars use smaller metric bolts for mounting the seatbelts, pre-facelift use larger imperial size bolts. Don't ask me how I know;-)

Hold on, does that mean you put the seats from a D8 into your D9?

All info always welcome! :cheesy:

Hi Steve,
Yes, it worked for me :)
I found the parts, still in the car, on ebay. I thought I would take a gamble
on them being the same. The parts seemed to be making good money used, so I
reasoned that even if they didn't fit, I could probably move them on.
I think that it was you who had pointed me to the Peugeot
service box site, and the bits all looked the same there. I took all the bits out of
the donor car and checked my car as I went along. The guy I bought from was really
good about letting me take everything that I thought I would need.
The sheet metal is all the same, as is most, if not all of the trim (see later).
All the holes seemed to be in the same place, but I could not tell about the seat belt
mechanism mountings behind the side trims. When I got all the bits back home, and
having learnt how to dismantle all the trim while working on the donor car, it was relatively
simple to then start taking my car apart to see what would fit and what would not.
My D9 side panels, below-the-side-window-grilles, and C-post (rear of back doors) trims,
all had molding marks for the holes to be cut out, on the backs, that exactly matched the
old parts from the D8 estate. So it was just a case of cutting to fit, using the old parts as a
pattern. The boot mat/seat surround is a straight replacement, using the longer tie-down
mountings and bolts from the donor. All in all, not a difficult job, just a bit time consuming,
because of all the trim removal/replacement.
As mentioned in the previous post, the only major problem I found was the different bolt sizes for
the belt mountings, between the earlier and later cars. My local dealer sorted that for me very easily.
If anyone needs additional help, feel free to drop me a line. I don't monitor this site too much,
but I'm happy to offer any insights that I can.
