Re: front fog light alternative - am i stoopid?
i could feel it but not get a tool near it, and my fingers arent capable of undoing bolts, and even if it was off i would dread putting it back in, but ill keep it in mind for next time.
Re: front fog light alternative - am i stoopid?
Thought of reviving this thread after my D9 executive burnt the second set of fog bulbs within 02 months. I think it's due to the bad quality (blick) bulbs fitted. This time I'm going to convert them to HID. Already I have the high beams fitted with 6500k, H7 HIDs and I'm fascinated about the improved visibility and with them switched on the fog lights always looked too yellowish which doesn't match.
Has anyone done a HID conversion to fog lights ? with the ones available on ebay? simply because the light holder seems bit different to the other light bulbs and I doubt a HID light will fit that holder without any modifications.
any help/thoughts in this please?

Get some blanking plates & find some HID fog lights that fit into them?

LED fog lamp bulbs? I just fitted a set of white LED sidelight bulbs - they are really good. I'd imagine LEDs would last longer than halogen filament bulbs, and will consume less power. Easier to fit than HIDs too - no wiring issues. Less likely to fail an MOT than HID foglamps.

Nice idea Steve, but I'm all for the original look. So I think this will ruin (?) the original look on the facia.steve_earwig wrote:Get some blanking plates & find some HID fog lights that fit into them?
I've searched through bay of e and H1s of the same shape are available but seems like I have to take the lights off to fit. Have already fitted a set of HID for the high beam in just two hours, seems like not an easy job this time.

MOT is never an issue here, they only test emission and nothing elsehighlander wrote:LED fog lamp bulbs? I just fitted a set of white LED sidelight bulbs - they are really good. The LED sidelights I bought are a crisp, bright, white light - they are whiter than the dipped beam bulbs (Osram Night Breaker Plus H7).
You can get some LED H1 bulbs that have a lot of LEDs on them, but size seems to be the determining factor in whether or not you can use them. I don't know how long the H1 bulbs we have in the 406 are.
Here's one that has 102x SMD LED light-sources on it (measures 78mm long):

Here's one that has 68x SMD LED light-sources on it (measures 77mm long):

Note: I have no idea of the legalities of using these LED bulbs in the UK or anywhere else. I also have no idea if they're any good as fog lights; would need someone to take the plunge and have a go. The sidelights I have have a crisp, cold white light, and produce considerably more light than the standard sidelight bulbs do.

I thought that too, so changed my front sidelights and number plate lamps a couple of years back.highlander wrote: I'd imagine LEDs would last longer than halogen filament bulbs, and will consume less power.
Given up & gone back to filament lamps, as 3 out of 4 of them failed in under a year. (& before you all tell me yours last forever, I do about 15K, in the dark, every year).
