Re: Subtle touches make most difference?
Some little subtle changes ive made to mine, front end mostly shared with dai, laguna splitter, chrome stripped under bumper grille, custom made chrome alloy mesh grille with my own "welton" panel, led sidelights ( the white light sort ) blue headlamps and main beam, led brake lights, wolfrace alloys, red calipers, ya know sublte things to make it yours and stand out a little bit. Oh are i got rid of that sodding whip ariel as well and knicked a beesting sort off me dads knackerd mk5 CVH engined sack of shi...escort. Old saying being its the little things that make all the difference, or praps it takes many odds n sods, nuts and bolts to make a complete machine work.

Re: Subtle touches make most difference?
sorry just picked up on the washer jet, mister thingy.
I know on the 405 we had a 1.8 petrol GR estate, that had the washer bar system, what happens is the water feed comes up from the bottle just the same as we all got at the mo, but instead of going to the bonnet mounted penny water pistols, the pipework ran up the firewall from the washer bottle, underneath the scuttle plate ( where ya pollen filter and wiper motor live, i just wanted to say scuttle tee hee )... yeah under there, to a T piece, then 1 pipe per wiper went through its own grommeted hole through the actual scuttle plate up to the wiper arms in a smooth arc to stop it from kinking to the spray bars, simple pieces of kit really, all it was a triangular length of plastic with holes down the face that faces the windscreen and a bent over hose at the far end angled to the edge of the wiper blade the clips that held it in place are of a universal fit to a spring sort of wiper blade, in fact when the 405 was in production, champion supplied there wiper blades for 405's with the clips that held the jetting bar in place, along with the wiper arm clips. If ya really wanted to you could use say a small black diamiter tube or even get some retro-fit aero wiper blades ( them new flat sort that got spring steel in em, find em on new astras and the like ) drill a hole in the end of the plastic bit at the top of the blade itself, then down the length of it, smaller holes facing the windscreen, then attach some black flexi hose, take it through the scuttle plate, and "T" it onto ya original pipework then it'd be all in one and look very neat
.... i feel a weekend project coming on
I do remember it being very very effective and swamping the windscreen with water, not dangerously like, but effective at shifting all sorts of crap as the jetting is so close to the windscreen. Hope this helps with the understanding of how it works n that, n some ideas of custom made systems

Re: Subtle touches make most difference?
Have to say very nice i like
. Im considering changing my washer jets but with the later 406 type which have mist spray instead of two water pistols either side
Have to say i have friends and family in tamworth. Have never seen your pug around. Mine is all silver all colour coded and a rear bmw type lip spoiler. I prefer to the original 406 spoiler. Check my pics on the forum Rappy

Re: Subtle touches make most difference?
Ta very much for the comment rapport25, tis nice to know that mods you make are appreciated and dont run into the realms of tacky or over the top, tis a fine line to run between As you say with your preference on the M5 style lip spoiler, i was looking at them myself and they do look smart and do suit the car very well but in a styling kind of rule i got in my head its hard to explain, but to balance the look of my 406 with the low front end with the laguna chin spoiler i need to equal it on the back end, But the M5 spoiler seemed a little too low and subtle for me and didnt quite balance, but the larger pug spoiler did, the sills ive cheated a little bit with the body sculpted mudflaps just to give the impression of it sitting a bit lower the 17" wheels help with that too, i would of put side skirts on but i aint found any i like the look of. its each to their own i spose... maybe for an example ( a bad one maybe to some people, but obvious for a balance and equlibrium example ) ya see a sierra rs500, the widebody one, now picture it without the whale tail, i know its like the centre piece of the car and we dont know any different to that "look" but it just looks wrong without it. Or sometimes you see an ( again im only using it as an example ) MG ZR the rover 200 one, with all the sports bumpers, spoilers but no sideskirts. It dont look finished or equal.... ya probably all think im mad
Anyways enough of my mad rules and styling ways lol, now that you mention the washer jets being a mist rather than a jet, im almost certain mine is fitted with the mist sort as the water aint directional like the super soaker water pistol effect.
ya come to mention your 406 being silver colour coded with the lip spoiler, im pretty sure ive saw your car,as i looked twice for the black rub strips
, an effective modification it is too mate looked smart
i was gonna do the same with my old d8 406, as it was white i just didnt fancy colour matching white
there aint many "tarted" up 406's in tamworth, i think theres only mine and( unfortunatley plenty of rice burners in an unintentional rat style from "drifting" just that little bit too far, saxos and even novas ! ) and a white 406 lx, done very very badly in my own opinion but when i tell you what it looks like im sure you'll agree, imagine the hubcaps that look like the alloys off a 205 GTI, blue sparco rally style mudflaps, a sticker of a Dimmer style fuel cap stuck on the fuel flap complete with fake alan bolts, red and blue seat covers, a bolted on rage backbox, an offset black " shelby ( not viper ) bodystripe, anodised wiper blades in fade to pink red....and to top it off a spoiler that looks like the one off the supra in the fast and the furious, its HUGE !!! and god damn ugly..... again each to their own

Anyways enough of my mad rules and styling ways lol, now that you mention the washer jets being a mist rather than a jet, im almost certain mine is fitted with the mist sort as the water aint directional like the super soaker water pistol effect.

Re: Subtle touches make most difference?
Have to say not seen many 406's around tamworth only the taxi's really. The one you describe sounds very nice
Have to say when i see cars like that i point and laugh cant help it. The driver of the car does not like as they give me a loving smile back
I can see your point with what you are saying. Each to there own i would say. But a point to consider Look at a top the range bmw m3 or m5 all singing and dancing and they have the lip type spoiler less is more i guess. Also gives a lot more down force when cornering or at high speed.
Just my opinion if i had a black pug i would be tempted to colour code the black bumper inserts silver door handles and mirror caps as well. But thats just me.
I thought the washer's spraying a mist was 04 and on as my mates 53 plate 406 does not have them but my ex's 206 04 plate did.
Will look out for your pug when im over tamworth next and a polite flash and nod you will get

Re: Subtle touches make most difference?
yep thats correct.. its about 30cm long, and sprayes 4-5 jets across the window as the wipers are movingsteve_earwig wrote:It's a long time ago but I seem to remember it was a folded tube with holes along it.
Re: Subtle touches make most difference?
I think I prefer the cannon idea tbh - really make use of the 406's 11 litre water bottle by blasting it all at the screen in 2 seconds flat

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Re: Subtle touches make most difference?
Someone bought me a "heated washer jets" christmas present once for my XR2, miles of tubing and a strap-on heat exchanger thing (picking up heat from a coolant hose) I remember hastily boshing the kit in on Boxing Day in the cold (as you do).
It was shyte
the only time you would like warm water is first thing - when the coolant hose is stone cold
and when it did get warm you'd get a huge dead leg of cold water first
The whole shitty lot went in the bin a week later right next to the "heated ice scraper"
....carry on

Mine is a d9. Its the later d9's from i think 2003 on have the mist type which are far better cover the hole of the screen instead of two water pistols

That's ok, I spend whole evenings listening to little kids learning English so nothing on here bothers me in the least
I am
you are
he is/s-he is/šhit is...
Sometimes you get to realise what an amazingly complicated language we have, but at least we don't have 42 ways of saying "my"
In that case I'd reckon your bonnet is the right angle for them. Mine just sprays the windscreen wiper, I just tried shoving a needle down there, there is no jet to move. All I succeeded in doing was unclip it again

Re: Subtle touches make most difference?
Hi
I have a d8 sri, and I have just manage to get hold of a peugeot sp bodystyling kit to fit on to it within the next few weeks.
It isn't one of them over the top body kits, it is just a front spoiler with round fogs and a rear bumper spoiler. But I was also wondering if the side skirts off a vectra gsi would fit, any idea anyone
cheers
Simon
