Re: white dials for p reg 19.td - do they exist
I tried an LED in the mileage bit and it wasn't diffused enough, so gave a bright spot on the counter so I switched back to normal. Have LED bulbs for the standard backlighting bits though so the needles glow a nice white at night.

OK... I had the opposite situation I think ^_^
Previously I'd done the blue effect with blue cellophane from the local crafts shop, but in the counter and clock it gave a bright spot (with the old incandescents).
Now I have a wee slip of diffuser film in there behind the blue filter (see my earlier link to Metal Monkey), the problem is that the LED won't light up in the counter slot
Chief, t'was a 12V 509T replacement LEd you used perchance? Would you recall where you got it from?

Can't remember off hand, but I've got a few different types to be fair, some which go in the original holders and some with holders attached.

Hmm... reckon mebbe I could buy a couple of the ones you used in your counter off of you? Assuming they're white, of course.

Right, I have rehashed phase 2 of my experimental project Illuminating Diode Integrated Optical Trickery.
Once again the camera doesn't really do the effect justice

Whereas in my previous attempt I simply superglued a bunch of blue cellophane on the back of me panel, this time I used the dark blue sticky-back plastic and diffuser film from Metal Monkey, plus proper white diodes. As you can see it's not perfect - the diodes don't light the top of the rev counter too well, and there are lighter patches due, I think, to the superglue I wasn't able to remove.
Also I had to remove one LED from its holder and solder it to the small bulb holder used in the clock, which was a headache (it was quite determined not to stick). It'll do though, I like it, the wife was impressed, and it's a one off. I can do an illustrated guide if anyone is interested.
