So jokes aside,
I believe the correct course of action is to twist and pull your knob till it comes off.
see even done as straight advice how can it not sound like a joke??

Mine took a tremendous amount of brute force. I thought I was going to damage the car - turns out the bitch bit me instead; ended up bleeding profusely from a big flap of skin that got ripped up.
Top tip: wear some grippy gloves, and if needs be, dust them up with some chalk for extra grip.
You may find that your gear knob comes off without much fuss, LIKE ITS SUPPOSED TO, in which case I'm damned jealous.

ok knob off and new leather gaitor fitted (brilliant for £8) genuine leather as well
my worry now is the knob is not as tight as it was before,, hmmm

(LOL sounds to funny)
i dont wanna be using glue just in case i need to replace the gaitor again
any tips how to make it tight again would be good

While you have it off you might as well do the following...

I did it and Im really happy with the end result.

Maybe a few wraps of PTFE tape or some other thin flexible tape round your shaft will help your knob stay stiff and no longer be floppy
how can you really expect any of us on here not to make sniggering like sounds to any of this

Join the coupe club. A wealth of knowledge awaits. And much of it can be copied in the saloon/estate

No you don't! I haven't paid anything, there's a little pressure to become a "full" member but basic membership is free.... I
might upgrade when I actually have a coupe
