Genuine 406 Floor Mats

Hi all,

My 406 came with really tatty Arnold Clark floor mats. I immediately chucked the drivers' one in the boot and used it as boot lining, because the damn thing wouldn't stay still, and it was either becoming wedged under the pedals (dangerous) or making my foot slip off the pedals (also dangerous).

My step-son bought me a nicer set of universal mats, but they also slip about, and are the wrong shape, so the problem still exists.

Currently I'm not using a drivers' mat, which is obviously not great for the carpeting (which is more of a bitch to replace than the mats are).

I see sets of genuine Peugeot 406 mats on eBay, which are obviously tailored to the car (they are the right size and shape exactly) but there appear to be a pair of holes on the drivers' mat. What are these for - clips? I can't imagine Pug would sell mats (or provide them with the 406) if they would slip and slide dangerously.

Did the LX even have mats when sold as new? If so, how are they anchored down?

Cheers
Graeme

my mats have two holes in the drivers mat just under the seat for anchoring to the floor. they have clips that turn 45 degrees to clock them in place.

not sure if they are genny pug mats though, but i need a new drivers mat as it has a hole in!

I'd recommend Car Mats 4U on the interweb they're top quality and make tailored mats for the dealers.

I've had 3 sets of tailored mats and all were perfect. You can choose a heavy weight (luxury) carpet which is very lush and it comes with a non-slip backing and fixings. The fixings are like big plastic curly screws that literally screw into the floor carpeting.

I've got a set of luxury light-grey mats from them in the Volvo and they're very nice and being made from proper automotive material type stuff they wash/clean very easily. There's a set in her indoors Astra too and they don't slide about. Ask them for additional fixings for the rear mats too for extra security.

Mats with pre-drilled holes are usually to pick up with OE fixings on the floor carpet (like a dealer mat set) although my 406 never had any pegs in the floor or anything.

I'd avoid the cheap ebay tailored mats, the ones above are weighty and stay put!

I got a genuine Peugeot set of mats, and the driver's mat has two holes at the back of it. However:
  • the screws provided with the mats don't fit through the holes, and
  • there is nothing on the floor to screw the screws into anyway
However, as the mats fit perfectly, they seem to stay in place.

Mine has the original mats, and the the rotating buttons to hold them in place. Nothing like the aftermarket alternatives...

I have the original mats that came with the car, but them buttons have gone, theres one left but i have not needed it yet, the main problem with my mats is they are cream to match the carpet and seats, so they could just get as dirty as the rest of the car (dont pick a car with cream leather if you are not prepared to clean it every week or else it just gets all grubby looking) so i had to get black rubber mats to put over them to keep them clean, and i got rubber mats, from instores finest range for £5 and it keeps the inside nice and clean
