My local scrappies is getting an SE in and i have reserved its bits of kit such as the chrome door handles, silver dash, chrome gearknob and white dials but i think all should transfer easy into my 2002 executive but then i thought the MFD in an SE usually has the sat nav, wheras my car just has the standard MFD with 2 buttons, is it possible to get paint to get my MFD to match the silver colour of the rest of the dash

yeah the disassembly bit is ok, but it never covered the issue of the precise paint to buy for the task

As far as my experience with painting interior bits (about 7 years ago when i did my fiesta black and grey) aslong as you have a plastic primer and some lacquer any paint will do.

but i want the mfd display to match the silver bits im taking out of the SE car, is there places where i could do a colour match to get the right colour of paint, and another thing is i dont actually think the normal silver dash has lacquer on it as it looks like matte paint

Why arent you taking the MFD from the SE?

I'm assuming the MFD from the donor car has a silver fascia.
If so, why not just swap the fascia over. It's a simple cover that clips and screws onto the MFD.
It comes off easily as per my how to thread. Should be a straight swap.

Be carefull with the dials though. If your cars is of 2002 vintage it may be multiplexed. If the SE Donor car is not multiplexed, the dials will be incompatible.
However... as far as I am aware, only multiplexed 406s featured the white dials.

Post a pic of your indicator and wipe stalks... thats the easiest way to tell if your car is multiplexed or not.

Wont be a straight swap if he wants to take the Fascia from a Sat nav MFD and put it onto his regular MFD. Buttons wont allow it

Im saying he should take the satnav MFD and pop that in his car. It will still work perfectly (and its better ) Might have to source a remote from somewhere though if the SE one is missing.

Might need a trip to the stealer to get the BSI to talk to the higher spec MFD

Good point! Forgot that the Sat nav MFD only has an infrared port.

In that case, if you want to paint the existing MFD fascia, the best, and in my view only, choice is to take one of the silver blanking plates to a shop that does spray paints and match it up as close as possible.

That is possible, if you are very good at measuring and well practised with a drill.
2 or 3 mm out and you've ruined the fascia.

I have a solution its elaborate and completely mad but anyhow, the original MFD has buttons on each side of it, the SE has just an infared port, the buttons on my MFD are quite pointless apart from changing the clock which means that i dont really need to use them every day, so they can be placed somewhere else if possible. What im thinking of is getting the SE MFD silver cover, spray the back of the infared port black, and then put it over my MFD, then solder wires onto where the buttons are swithcing and run the wires to somewhere inconspicuos in the car such as the top of the glove box or way behind the ashtray where i would have 2 push buttons to set the time if necessary, and the best bit is if i sell the car the next buyer will probably never figure out how to set the clock. But how does it sound soldering 2 external PTM switches onto my MFD, threadding the wire round the back of the dash and putting the buttons somewhere else, can it be done?
As for the speedo dials i believe they should swap straight over, i discussed this earlier in some other post my car is a 2002 it has the much praised and loved COM2000 indicator stalk which therefore means its a straight swap.

I do have to point out though that swapping the clocks over may result in your mileage being screwed up; don't these have a tendency to add the mileage stored on the clocks to the mileage stored in your BSI?

Could you not just split the two sets of gauges apart and swap all the white fascia bits across to your dials. Are there any other differences, i.e. lighting, between black and white dials?
