Hello all, how the devil are we?
I need a hand! My heaters are stuck on full and the air-con has stopped working, dodgy control unit me thinks, anyway its also heating the wires to the point where the white plugs are now brown, is this normal?

One more thing I have the knoby control unit. Can I change it to the Climate control unit? Is it a simple swap? i just prefer the look of the climate control buttons and the not having to fiddle

Hi there, sorry about the wait I guess the first part of your question is the easy bit (well, relatively...) - a couple of threads here for you to have a read of:

As for the second part, I've not got a clue how much different the systems are I guess the air conditioning lacks the sniffer fans of the climate control for a kick off (or does it??). If I look in Service Box it has everything so what I could really do with is your vin/chassis number to use as a filter. Either post it here or pm it to me if you're shy and I'll see what I can find. I suppose one limiting factor is wiring. I think if you're serious about this you should pull off the roof console and see if you have the wiring for the fan, otherwise it could get silly adding the wiring for everything & probably be one of those jobs you wish you hadn't started...

Now, the black box with the green plugs that everyone replaces for the same reason, does that also control the AC button and the air recycle button? Because they dont work either, I think that entire panels nakered. kinda what you get for buying a £200 car .

Any luck tracing the faults? What about the wiring, is it there?

I've had a squint and... Service Box makes no distinction between the heater box for cars with air conditioning and cars with climate control (or "regulation aircon/temp" ), however I'm pretty sure your controls are worked with Bowden cables (think bicycle brake cables) but the climate control must have ickle motors on everything, so I'm not sure if it's a case of ripping off the motors from one in the breaker's and fitting them to your heater box (which SB says are all the same for D8s, except the HDi) or you'll need to change the whole damn thing.

Additionally, you'll need lots of other stuff while you're there:

(apologies for SB screenshot, the coupe parts catalogue seems to have turned into a site about bicycles )
Note that some of these parts will be on yours already and some you'll have to take off & stick in the bin...

As I said before, if the wiring is there then you might be in with a chance, though personally I wouldn't fancy it.

As for the cruise, it would appear that Pug didn't fit it to any D8 diesel, most of the parts are generic (ecu, brake switch, clutch switch, power relay, vacuum pump, bracket and associated plumbing, control lever) but the vacuum servo and control cables are engine-specific, it only lists the 1.8, 2.0 and V6. I suppose you could try the actuator from the 2.0 (XU10J4R) because it's a cable but then I've no idea if the ecu would get any speed information from the gearbox (although as yours is an ML5T it might 'cos the V6 has the same 'box). It would probably be easier to fit an after-market system (though they don't come cheap unfortunately)

ok taken the damn thing apart, tested resitance, exactly the same to the Decimal. I've taken a couple of pictures of the thingy can you please advise where to look next? Im going to take the whole panel out next . And now the radio is saying err code. freaking thing anyone got a decoder?

What are exactly the same to the decimal? I believe those transistors can go pop & stick on full speed. Or the relay's welded closed

try get the same part from a breakers and test it.
