Therer's a how to on cleaning the rain sensor here - viewtopic.php?f=10&t=11784 It's not very clear which way you're meant to slide it but if you look further down it shows how to refit it, so it looks like you need to slide it downwards, perhaps lifting the back end with something that's not metal to clear the bracket.

On a more serious note with french cars the torx heads are essential, a small phase tester is always handy to have, a pair of wire snips, a pair of plyers, a socket set up to 13 for the interior. A hammer (for gentle persuasion) and some pry tools for the visible parts of the car and thats all you need to strip out the interior of a 406, or most cars.

...and since you're working in an environment where torn metal and broken glass are an everyday occurrence (hell, you may break the windscreen if you're not careful), a pair of very sturdy workman's gloves, and possibly some safety glasses.

You won't need much. Some smaller torx drivers to remove the roof light console so you can get to the wire connector (assuming it connects up there) and the mirror slides up IIRC to get it off. If you want the mount, then that'll be a complete bitch to remove as it's glued on there pretty damn well! Aim for a mirror which uses the same mounting method, which seems to be a pretty common one on quite a few cars.

The mirror should slide down the windscreen to release, needs a bit of force and a wiggle.
