Job is done!!!!!! Today I replaced the matrix, in the end quit an easy job. Thank you for all the usefull information, I couldn't have done without it. It cost me about 4 hours, not bad for the first time :?

New matrix was €42,- Most difficult part was to get de Torx 50 for the steering column, in the end I lend it from a friendly Peugeot mechanic.

Just broke for the 2nd time. Again wet feet for the passenger and foggy windows at the right side. 2nd time around, the repair went a lot quicker, was able to do it in 2,5 hours. New matrix is only €35, would be nice if they would make it a bit more expensive but of good quality.

That is bad luck. I've heard of very few people having to change one once. :?

Hope you have better luck this time.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Is the engine coolant running high pressure? perhaps the main radiator is partially blocked? when a cooling system goes over-pressure one of the weak points is the Matrix (even before the expansion cap blows in some cases).

On the C5 the whole dashboard has to come out so as I have one of each so I hope if either go its the 406. The heater in the the XMs I ran previously can be accessed from the drivers footwell.
