Hi Guys,
I need some help. the heater matrix of my car is leaking and I don't now how to replace this. Do I have to remove the complete dashboard or is there an easier way? It's a 406 HDI 80 kW estate from 2002 (D9?) with ECC. The passenger side is getting wet with coolant, so i'm quit sure it is the heater matrix.
Appreciate your help.
Regards, Pat.

Hi there Pat, welcome
Apparently you can get to the heater matrix on yours by removing the glove box (I'd have to remove the steering column on mine

)

Thats'a very good point, errrr, Austria
Looks like you've got to take your steering column out Pat. It might be worth getting at it by removing the lower covers to see what's going on first.

Thank you for all your quick reply's and warm welcomes, what a good forum this is!!
Your right, I'm from the Netherlands (now you understand my poor English) and my 406 is a LHD. So if I understand previous reply's, I "just" have to take away the steering column to get access to the heater?
Regards, Pat.

I couldn't see anything when I have my glovebox out, other than the fan. I think the matrix connectors are on the left too

Steve,
You could be right about the connections. On the bulkhead in the engine compartment the hoses to the heater are also a bit left from the middle.
Does this mean I can disconnect the hoses to and from the matrix from the left (without removing the steering column) and take it out from the right by removing the glovebox?
Regards, Pat.

That I don't know, the Haynes repair manual for the D8 says it always comes out from the left but the book for the D9 just says remove the glovebox without mentioning which side it's on

Perhaps it would be worth taking the lower covers off and having a look.

so did some among you already make, can you say to me if it is really necessary to deposit the steering column like it says the review or if that passes without that?
thank you!

It looks a lot less complicated than I'd have thought in the pdf.
