Leather Seat Problem........

Hi

I have acquired a set of leather seats that came from a 1999 406 Saloon that I was told would fit my 1999 estate.

When they arrived I found out that the 60/40 split rear seat back it the opposite way around to my estate as the 40% section is on the drivers side whilst in my car it is on the passenger side.

Is there any way I can make them fit - I woudered if I could change the covers from one set to the other?

Any help would be great....other than that it's get them on e-bay.........

Short answer is, the seller lied. I've had a saloon interior that I hoped to use the front seats (long story) & I've had good opportunity to examine all the ins & outs of both interiors. You'll also find that the saloon bench doesn't split at all. Basically without paying a trimmers a fortune to retrim your rear seats with the leather, the saloon rears will be useless. I did contemplate this as I quite fancied having the rear armrest in my estate, but on a car worth no more than £1500 at best it just isn't worth it.

Your simplest solution would be to just wait for an estate set to come along. In one way you are lucky that your car is a 1999 as you don't have to worry about the seat airbags so you could in theory fit absolutely any front seats from any 406. If the front seats are in very good condition I'd suggest keeping hold of them & then if you pick up an estate set where the fronts are a bit worn, you can keep the best ones for yourself & sell off the leftovers as a saloon interior.

Thanks matey, I thought as much as it looks way too complicated to even consider having a go as swapping trims.

I will look out for a leather rear seat for an estate and go from there.

Onwards to e-bay....... 8)

Did you buy them from Ebay? Had a look & found 2 sets on completed listings - & the cheapest set was actually for an estate (you could even see from the picture), but the other set was the smooth, non-ribbed type which, although nicer, can be a little harder to find.

Yeah - They went for £82 to someone as I stopped bidding at £70 as I had a suspicion that the bidder was probably a friend of the person that listed them. :o

Sure enough, when they sold I got a message the next day offering them to me at the price I bid....I took them like a fool but a bit cheaper :(

The ones that went for £72 would have been better but they were a long way from me......I will look and see if there is a rear leather seat for a 406 in the breakerlink/used spares searches......

I guess I will put these back on e-bay and see if I can sell them.

The annoying thing is that I only wanted them for the front armrests......I suppose I could look for cloth too :?:
