ijust cover the ashtrays with Carbon fibre sheet, looks tidy and stops people using the ashtray for putting toffee papers and crap in.

Is the original ashtray bad, do people not like the wood effect or is this to prevent the temptation of smoking?

I got mine because it vreates a very useful storage cubby out of something which never gets used.

its just i find the current space perfect for holding my wallet, and the remote, while the
ash tray can slowly fill with coins or bic pens, its even a handy flat surfae to set a bottle on when
eating something in the car.
though there is obviously the advantage of hiding the stuff under the lid, though is it damped like the ash tray lid

I've ordered one of these (from 106parts on eBay as linked above) hoping that it'll be good storage my Aux-in adaptor - currently it's stuck in the ash tray but it sticks out (i.e. can't close the tray when not in use) and I don't want to destroy such an incredibly over-engineered ash tray! :) I didn't realise the actual tray smoothly pops out if you push back on the door (when open) - I was wondering what all those gears and springs underneath were there for...

I fitted mine a couple of weeks ago - it makes much better use of the space available compared to the ash tray. It has a tray (non-removable) where the ash tray would normally go but is a good bit bigger - can still be used for coins, etc. The Connects2 aux-in adaptor for the stereo fits in there nicely, although I had to drill a hole in the base for the wiring.

Some pics of the non-smoking kit fitted if anyone's interested:

Note the deeper recess where the ash tray would normally go. There's a slot for the ash tray light too, but no orange filter to match the rest of the centre console lighting.
