Guys,

I want to paint the trim rings around the instruments in silver. Once the instrument cluster is out, how easy is it to remove the rings from round the clocks?

Cheers,

You can't, they're moulded onto the faceplate. You'll need to remove the perspex shield with a heat gun at a lot of care.
It will be far easier to scour the local scrapies or e-bay for the silver dial surround.

The face comes off easily and does not disturb the clock mechanism. If you take your speedo unit out you'll see it has two distinct parts.

Fropm front section is black, the rear section with all the sensitive bits is White, sometimes greyish.
The black front piece screws off easily and can be replaced with one with silver rings in 5 minutes flat.

As it happens, I'm no longer using my set of silver surrounded dials.

Not sure what they're worth. The two top fixing lugs were snapped off by the scrappy and there are some surface scratches on the lense.
Other than that, they're ok and the two bottom fixing lugs are solid. They're still held firmly in place once installed.

PM if your interested
