Is the dial on the far left that goes off once the car has started,oil level or something to do with the glow plugs?is it supposed to go off with the car running.many thanks.

Some cars it's an Oil level gauge, it goes upto the oil level and switches itself off.
Other cars it's an Oil tmp gauge.

D9 cars only came with an Oil temp gauge as the LCD display shows the oil level.

Sorry should have menrioned the car Sreg 406 GLX TD Estate 1998.

It's an oil level gauge then. Tells you how much oil is in the engine then goes back to sleep.
