seven seats (7)

Calling in more of your superior knowledge gents

Much as I have prowled I can't find the answers,

I need a seven seater and I have a 03 406se estate sooo, I could pick up some seats from a 1998 406,

would they interchange including seatbelts etc, what happens with the spare wheel and most importantly I have read that the car can't have 60/40 split seats (not quite sure if that means that your not allowed to drop the seats or whether there is a special bench seat for the seven seat models?) I don't want to lose the half leather 60/40

also how do I make that a legal conversion?

Many thanks

Pete :|

My car is a factory fit 7 seat model & originally had a 1 piece rear bench & it did say in the handbook not to remove, but I honestly don't know why. My car currently has a 60/40 rear seat since I replaced the interior a year ago & haven't had any problems or issues.

To do the 100% conversion though, you need:

Seats
Belts
Spacesaver spare wheel
Carpet that covers the spare wheel
Internal tailgate trim which also includes a sunblind & an internal boot opening lock & button - the lock is the same as the glovebox lock
& the replacement boot floor.

In all honesty, my estate is just as versatile when carying 7 as most MPVs. None of them have a boot with all 7 seats in place anyway, but at least the rear seats in my estate are more comfortable than the back row of a Zafira.

this thread may answer a question i have too, i have the seats hidden nicely under the boot carpet all fully equiped with belts if i ever need to use them... my main reason for the bigger car though is space for my sheep.

With regards to the rear seats it's fitted with what i think would be a 60/40 rear and a 60/40 bench so i'd say someones changed it?

Possibly, but up until a few weeks ago I didn't think that they produced a 7 seat Rapier (with the black cloth) but the guy who bought my SE seats had one. Easiest way to tell if it was a conversion or a factory job is to look inside the tailgate. If you have an interior opening button with a lock, chances are that it was a factory job as most people don't bother with finer details like that when doing a conversion. To be even more sure, try your key in the lock of the interior button - if somebody did go to the extra trouble of fitting the interior boot release, they probably didn't change the lock in it, which would mean that your key wouldn't fit it.

Mine didn't have the boot release and it was a factory option!

Could have been a D9 add on then. I honestly though that it would be found on all of them as a safety requirement e.g. to allow the occupants to exit the vehicle in an emergency.

Well I had the Original sales receipt/Lease agreement for mine and it was a 1.9TD L and had an Electric Sunroof and the 7 seat conversion as options and no boot realse

Did it say how much the 7 seat conversion was? It'd be interesting to see how much they charged for it. I originally thought that the 7 seaters were separate models as they were designated "Family", but anybody looking at the paperwork for my car would never know that it was a 7 seater. Says nothing on the V5 & when I put the reg number in for insurance quotes it just says LX estate.

Infact it's a 'Family package'... I can't remember how much it was. £550 rings a bell?

just to had when fitting my conversion i also needed to change the plastic window trim and the carpet over rear arches as there is no hole in the origanal for the bolts that hold the seat belts on to go through
