Tinting Windows

Post by Sonia406 »

Has anyone here tinted their windows their self?
I want my rears done, being the ''family'' I particularly want the rear door done.

Has anyone done it themselves?
I have got a quote ''From £180'' for the back windows, while for an estate car I think this is pretty reasonable - it's something I would have to stretch to........

Any helpful hints would be great :D

Have a look at http://www.vanstyle.co.uk/shop/index.php , I was thinking of getting the rears for my estate,i don't need the rear door one as I have a retractable blind but they wouldn't do a part set so i'm still thinking whether to go for them or not. :?

I've retractable blinds on the rear doors but there from a saloon and leave gaps and theres nothing on the rear load area side windows, being a later model the rear screen has a good tint and with the blind that's fine.I like the idea of those shades as you can have the rear windows down to let the air in but still keeping the sun out.

I have ' window sox ' on my car. They are like a pair of tights that go over the back windows keeping sun out but allowing you to open windows too. Held on with velcro strips they are easy to take on and off too.

As for tinted window, its all or none for me. I would want all windows the same tint.

Trying to do your own Winted Tindows would not end well in my opinion. It's not rocket science but you will not have the benefit of all the little tricks you need for a good finish, a proper tinting session will see all the window rubbers removed too as far as I know.

I've tinted a few, its not too hard..
The trick is start with cleaning the glass, inside and out its got to be spotless.

Put the film on the out side first, heat it up with a hair dryer /shape it /shrink it cut it..
Then apply it to the inside,

Use Johnsons baby shampoo just a few drops too a pint of water,

Cheapest place I've got the the tint/film from is Amazon it comes free with the trimming kit.

There's plenty of videos on YouTube worth a watch,

My 406 before tints(page 1) and after tints(page 2)and also page 2 the orange digger with my car in the snow I tinted the windows in that my self  I`m thinking of tinting my wifes Yaris 3 door which would be easy. You can get a roll of tint on ebay,6meters x3/4m for around £13.When I tinted my digger it I wasted a few bits of tint but soon got the hang of it.As said, the windows need to be cleaned, then I roughly cut a piece of tint to size, spayed plenty of soap water on the window, then peel the backing off the tint(bloody pain in the a@@e  )then spray plenty of soapy water on the tint to stop it sticking together, the apply to the window, get it all lined up,the using a rubber squeezy squeeze the water away.Do a youtube search, there are plenty of diy vids.My tints on my car are dark smoke, the 2nd darkest, limo dark being the darkest.viewtopic.php?f=20&t=10603&hilit=+window+tints
