Windscreen troubles

I think I have this under control but will ask here any way..
Do the 406s have any common faults with the windscreens?

I have noticed that just recently, in the rain I have demisting issues. Not 100% sure what's causing it, still under investigation but from what I have sussed out, the pollen filter being full of crap (and being black in colour) with leaves surrounding it - didn't help matters.
The only relief that is when I start to mist up from the inside that the heaters are powerful enough to clear it within a few minutes.
Usually only the air con gets rid of it, have noticed it's only when its raining and I have it on cold because it's a bit hot... then it starts misting up, so the heat goes onto it and we've then got windows open because it's too hot......


I do have a windscreen chip (the car came with) and was repaired by Autoglass last year, could moisture be getting in via there, or surely not?

my are is always misty i think its due to destroyed rubber around the door.

If you have automatic climate control, bear in mind the following:

a). It was designed by the French, therefore is it seriously illogical, yet entirely comfortable in its perception of superiority and infallibility.

b). Your attempts to manually intervene will be thwarted at every opportunity, beacuse of a). above.

c). If you didn't live in 'Perfidious Albion', your windows wouldn't steam up anyway.

Ha ha - that's so true!

I had noticed the 'auto' setting was becoming to annoy me...
I just can't turn down the fan while raining for it steaming up...... I'm sure all your pugs are not this bad? Even on the outside it steams up and wipers have to clear it!

Worth checking cabin filter, and recirculation flap on fan, they sometimes stick in down position

Also misty windows could be due to water under carpet or in boot spare wheel holder

To be fair I've found even opening windows doesn't clear it... and I've also found that with the setting purely on the windscreen and shutting the air vents - it still wouldn't clear. In fact, I found it able to clear a little better with the setting on > coming out towards driver but having the air vents still shut............

Sometimes a leaky heater matrix can be the cause of misting up.

Check under the carpets, the sound insulation on the 406 is mighty, at least an inch thick in places so there can be water under the carpet without it feeling damp, the door evaporation barriers (flimsy white sheets of that stuff found in the box of a new tv) need to be properly sealed as they can let a bit of water in although if they are leaking you can see water dripping in round the bottom of the doors, the door seals if they are leaking would normally show up when you have rain or a hose on outside the car.

If your air con still works thats the quickest way to demist the windows, it can clear the windows much faster than heat, i throw a few bags of silica gel around any car i own to soak up the moisture, and have one of these sitting in the passenger footwell:

Bit pricey though!
As far as door seals go, Will be taking door cards off over the next few weeks, so will find out then... But on the surface all appears dry on the inside after we've had rain or gone through the car wash

Do these cars have drain holes in the bit that houses the wiper motor
and pollen filter , have had misting up probs with other cars when

Dunno, but it's interesting someone else mentioned the heater matrix, my fella reckons it's that as well........
Need to fit my new pollen filter soon, it came a couple of days ago...

There are drain holes in the scuttle area, but if the car is parked under a tree frequently leaves can get in and clog it up, the plastic covers need to be taken off and you will be able to see if there is any leaves blocking the drain holes which are located below the bonnet hinges
