hey guys.
my trip computer/mfd on my 99-110bhp 406hdi just permanently says around 55-63 degrees c. the top button on the wiper stalk doesn't change anything. is this because I have no radio coded into the car???? car came with a Phillips tape deck/ multi changer cd, but having real trouble getting a code for it to test this theory out. could it be the comms behind the steering wheel ??? god knows lol, any clues??

hi there. Umm, if it's a Philips then I'm guessing your car is a D8 (pre-facelift), I know 1.9 & 2.1 tds didn't come with a trip computer, so maybe the HDi didn't either :? All they do is show the external temp (and it appears your sensor is kaput :( btw it's in the passenger side wing mirror)

I guess we'll have to know for sure at some point so is the number in your vin above or below 80800000?

I changed my temp sensor as mine said -5 'risk of ice' in mid July sat in traffic on the M6..!! It is very easy to do.

On My 2004, when I remove the stereo the MFD doesn't work at all.... PP2K thinks my stereo is a Phillips when it is clearly a Clarion but will let me make changes anyway.

The Comms is generally okay - its the indicators and airbag that let it down. As Steve says, maybe it is a basic MFD without the computer.

vin number is 807xxxxxx. handbook says trip comp does outside temp, avg mpg, fuel comp etc.
car registered 05/03/99 its a glx-hdi 110. the instrument I thought/think is trip comp also has the radio display on it. at the mo it needs a code.
its got two fans for rad not one, so can I assume its a d8 then?? I suppose the las owner got a copy of the handbook from another model.

looks like ill be buying a temp sensor off ebay then lol. least its an easy fix - the other problems less so, but that's another story......

Hmm. If it's a 99 HDi 110 then I'm pretty sure it's a D9, and should have a type B display that's operated by two buttons -- one at each side of it.
I can't remember what the wiper stalk button does on these.
It should show radio info.

On my 2002 the MFD works with an un-coded radio, but I've never run without a radio.

As it's a 99 you shouldn't have a COM2000!
The COM2000 has smooth stalks with dome-endedbuttons, but the earlier stalks have ridges in them and flat-ended buttons.

The remaining question is: do you need a magic number to put into the radio, or do you just need the radio coding to the car?

If the chassis number is 807xxxxx then it's definitely a D8. I suspect the handbooks are generic, it'll probably have the instructions for an automatic transmission too.

I seem to recall Plod's HDi is a D8 and I remember him trying to fit a trip computer a while back :?

radio needs a 4 digit code. I can only assume the battery been dis-connected. tried online, and all the sites asked for a 14 digit serial number, but mine only has 13??? odd that. my stalks both have little l shaped buttons on the edge of them, the horn one works at least!!! will keep on trying to find someone to code radio via serial number and see if owt works then. the mfd is sat next to the hazard switch and rear screen. its prob not mfd, just outside temp.
