Does your 406 have puddle lights and no memory seats?

Post by rwb »

If so then please say "aye"!

I'm looking for an example of a 406 that has puddle lights in the door cards, and does not have memory seats. (The seats could be manual or electric, but if electric then not have memory.)

Kind of equivalently, if you have puddle lights and PP2000 I'd like to know if there are any relevant settings in the seat ECU config.

The reason this has come about is that if you retro-fit door cards that have puddle lights then enabling them in the BSI config doesn't make them work, but no-one has worked out why.

Now, having perused ServiceBox I find there are 15 different driver's door looms for pre-mux cars (and two more for mux). The options listed include a variety of build codes, heated/folding mirrors, deadlocking, "additional function", and -- conspicuously -- memory seats.

Even more conspicuously, I have a GLX with no puddle lights whereas other GLXs I've seen do have them, and I have electric non-memory seats.

So, we can prove that the puddle lights have nothing to do with the seat ECU by finding a 406 with puddle lights that has non-memory seats. And preferably pre-mux, like Suart's and Sonia's 406s.

My Coupe has manual seats and puddle lights. I'm not sure if things are going to be different because it's a Coupe?

Mine is a full mux (build code 9376).

If it's any help I can whack the car on PP2000 and look through the settings for you?

Mine had/has puddle (sill?) lights with no memory seats. I shouldn't think the two are related as the memory ecu is the same one as fitted to D8s, with the added advantage (?) or being able to interrogate it via PP. Or maybe you could before :?

My old 52 plate had puddle lights and electric without memory seats, it was a GLX. Never had it on PP2K as I was not a regular visitor to the forum at the time.. :(

I still like the idea that it's something to do with the door loom.
Can anyone put me out of my misery on this one?

edit. fzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt

[glaringly obvious]You did test for an earth on the wires?[/clutching at straws]

The annoying thing is Sedre just shows the feed coming out of the BSI with no explanation of what happens inside, although the stuff that goes through relays & fuses is shown routed through to them.

Here's a horrible thought: What if presence of the wiring in the door doesn't necessarily mean it's in the rest of the car :?

That's kind of where I started: the door loom has the plug for the puddle lights, but what about the other end of the loom?
The floorpan loom only has options for memory seats and amplifier, so that can't be it.
And didn't you say the wiring diagrams just show a direct connection from BSI to puddle lights?

This is infuriating!

That's pretty much what I figured. My next hypothesis was to find out if they used standard door looms by finding out if a post 2000 L model had the back doors wired for electric windows. My LX had the wiring in the doors for puddle lights, but I had no wiring for the cruise control or heated & electric seats. By contrast, a 1999 LX that I found was prewired for all of this, but had no wiring in place to retrofit electric rear windows or any of the puddle light wiring in the doors.

It even had the wiring for the seat airbags in it, even though they didn't start fitting them in any 406 saloons or estates until 2000.

You should have already figured that they weren't linked to the seat ECU anyway Rich - D9 SRis had manual seats & puddle lights while the GTX & SE both had electric non-memory seats & puddle lights.

Who feels up for checking for the right wire in the connector in the BSI? :supafrisk:
