2000 406 estate rear seat problem

Hi,
Am unable to lift the rear seat up so as to enable the back of the seat to be folded down. One end is free and can be raised a few inches but the other side seems locked in position.
Checked out the manual but no help.
Any ideas?
Many thanks

HI and welcome aboard. 8)

Is yours a one-piece rear seat? - I have only ever seem the split-fold variety. They have a tab to pull the rear edge of either seat cushion up - there's not any latch or anything it should just pull up, even if the tab's been tucked down the back of the cushion. Try wriggling your fingers through the gap twixt cushion and backrest, then pulling it upwards.

.....unless of course it's a 7-seater, in which case ignore the above and await the appearance of an intelligent owner.

Hi Doggy and thanks for responding so quickly.
Yep, it's a seven seater HD model. No split seats, unfortunately.
Have a great Christmas.

Hi Gaston, welcome to the club :cheesy:

Hmmm - my current 7 seater is just the 2 extra seats in a standard estate with split-fold seats, however my other 7 seat ( factory fit ) is at a mates house while I get Christmas over and done with, before stripping it.

I will give him a call in the morning and see if he can leave the key out for me to have a butchers, maybe take some pictures of the back seat fixings.

I'll post up my findings for you tomorrow.

Kelv.

I had a look at my 7 seater earlier today - there are no catches or anything holding the seat base down, the same as a split seat - it should just tip forwards

I took a picture so you can see the base lifted, the only way I can think the base wont tilt forward is if something is caught under the hinge part at the front of the seat. Excuse the poor quality photo, but you can ( hopefully ) see the lack of fixings....

Hi, and apologies for not looking at your response sooner.
That makes sense. There shouldn't be anything there to stop it raising. Weird.
Now and again it's been a bit iffy but never this recalcitrant. I think I'll have to get the seat unbolted and locate the problem, hopefully.
Apart from that it's a great workhorse. I can throw anything into it or on top of it. So tough. And it just doesn't burn oil.
Thanks again.
Gaston

I had a problem with mine before where the seat was stuck folded down, I had to cut the middle seatbelt coming out the middle of the seat as it was stuck,

That has happened to a few members here, although no to me ( yet )

Apparently the trick is to pull the middle belt out a bit and tie a knot in it so it can't fully retract, before dropping the backrest.

I have since found out that buckling the middle belt up before folding also works a treat :)
