Split the dash down and retrieve the clock facia - the dials are printed on a kind of plasticard stuff. The orange filter is like a laminate on the back of it. Take a brillo pad and sand the orange off. Your white dash bulbs will now shine white through your clocks, but the red bits will still be red (as they're printed on the front side).
[EDIT] Oh wait, you want the clock faces themselves to be white? Well that I've never seen, as I say the instruments are all just printed on a single piece of black plastic.

[BUMP]
Look what I found
Now, admitedly this is for the higher spec petrol models and is the only D8 flavour they do (they have a D9 one too, and the svvy to refer to them as D8 and D9) but perhaps if you give them a tinkle you could get a diesel pne with a more realistic rev range. Though having said that, maybe a cluster from a petrol car would display the revs correctly given input from a diesel engine? Hmm...
Anyway, the point is now we can all have the sherbert pink clocks we always wanted

Looks like you can even get them in sherbet pink with neon pink numbers, fantastic

I like the Metal Monkey dials. I just e-mailed them as they said they'd produce them in any numbers, no minimum order required (unlike the Indiglo stuff that MoMan site in Poland was talking about), and they do the dials in both MPH as the major scale with minor KPH scale, and KPH only. And they're based in Wales.
I included the photo I took of my dials, as I don't have the oil gauge on my car, just the fuel, tacho, speedo, and temp gauges, with the heraldic lion in the middle. I also dropped the 406oc and Coupe Club URLs to them; maybe they could do us a discount or something

TBH I always wanted the lion on my cluster to light up ^_^
As it stands, I'm going to order up some of the filters they sell for DIY jobs. You may recall I used blue cellophane to turn my dash blue. It did work, but the incandescent bulbs aren't helping, leaving the blue washed out and too bright around the edges. Similarly the clock and trip counter have been made blue but the bulbs show through them... thus I'm going to try some dark blue filters with their diffuser sheets. Means taking apart the cluster yet again, but then Rome wasn't built on a tray.

Is there a how-to on disassembling the instrument cluster?
I will need to do it in order to fit the chrome dial rings Mr. Puggy has very kindly sent me.
Also - the Metal Monkey site lists LED replacement bulbs. Is this something I could use to replace the OEM dash bulbs? Without modification?

There are threads on the subject of dash splitting. I'll be doing mine again soon as my supplies pitch up so I guess I'll add some pics to this thread for future reference.
On mine, I remove three torx from the dash surround above the steering colums (i.e. they're upsidedown and screwed up). Then I take a butter knife and prise the dash surround out, breaking the clips so it doesn't go back in quite right.
The cluster is held in by four torx screws, in the corners. The cluster lifts out, unclips the yellow and blue connectors.
The cluster itself is held together with regular Philips screws aropund the periphery, 8 off if I recall. The lets you seperate the back and front halves and allows access to the guts.
From here you need to unclip and remove the perspex bit which mounts the clocks themselves. This should give you the access you need, Highlander. Should you wish to seperate the plasticard on which the instruments are printed, you'll need to remove the needles. Do this with caution as getting them back on in the right place is a bugger.
At all times procede very very carefully and don't force it. If it won't come, it's prolly clipped somewhere you haven't spotted yet ^_^
I found several websites which will sell you LED replacement bulbs to fit our dashboards. 509T is what we currently have, 12V 1.2W. Unfortunately white and blue are more expensive then other colours however they should outlast regular incandescent bulbs by years. Try
Auto Bulbs, I'm going to try the Metal Monkey filters with my current bulbs and if they prove unsatisfactory I'll upgrade to white LEDs

So, blue filter and diffuser card bought, £9.80 for a self-adhesive A4 sheet of each including postage.
Now regarding the LEDs: I believe our 406s use 509 bulbs for the dash and so forth, the twist-lock kind. It seems there are variations denoted by holder colour, the usual black kind being 1.2W. Some of mine are now grey, denoting 2W, which I pinched from a 406 at the scrappy. But when I look, I see all of
these and I wonder which is appropriate as they're all 2W.
And would
these be appropriate, as that site is doing them cheap if you buy 10

Metal dials in my 309:
Easy enough to fit and look the dogs danglies. If I can find a set of the 406 ones cheap, then I may well invest in a set, however £85 is a bit out of my price range for such a small mod atm.

Shame on you, Steve.
Not sure if that floats my boat Chief, but I respect the uniqueness ^_^

Hello car fanciers, I have a question about electrickery.
I've got me LED bulbs installed, they needed the wee silver contacts squishing down in order to grip so they're a bit wobbly (but none have fallen out yet). They're not dimming but I'm not worried about that. My question is why won't the LED bulbs work in my trip counter. I take a proven good LED, pop it in there both ways, jiggle it about and it just won't light up at all. I've got a regular incandescent in there now, which is OK at night but during the day makes the digits very dark (since the blue filter blocks most of the light).
I'm going to go probe around about with my multiplemeter at some point, just wondered if any 'lectronic gurus around the place could point out something obvious I might be missing. White ones of
these are wot I buyed.
Pictures/guide to follow when I get this sorted out. Tanx ^_^
